Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:Phase II of the Fairbury Cemetery Road and Street Project is well under way and thanks to the generous support of those who share our interests, we are already within 40 percent of reaching our goal of $280,000. Members of the cemetery board feel it is their duty to keep the public informed and up to date on our current status. Due to rising costs and inflation, the board has entered into an agreement with a local contractor to begin construction in October locking in current costs for labor and materials. Current and future donations will determine whether a portion or the entire project will be completed. The board has worked hard, donating their time and efforts promoting this project through mailings, personal handouts, and media advertising. Our goal is to promote and beautify a place of eternal rest that we can be proud of and attract others as well. Nebraska cemeteries are not supported by tax dollars, placing the burden of access, upkeep, maintenance, the cost of equipment; and labor on our local board and administration. With limited resources from plot sales, grave openings, locater fees, etc. we continue to ask for your support to complete this worthwhile project. We are a 501(c)(13) entity which is a non-profit organization and any contribution can reduce your tax liability.
