Local Counties Saw High Numbers Of Early Voters

Because FJN goes to print on Tuesdays, election results were not available as of press time. Therefore, as in the past, FJN put out a “special edition” online with available results.As is tradition, results will also be posted in the window of the FJN office. It is important to remember that any results released are not official until they have been certified.As of press time, early voting in the 2024 general election has been higher than the previous election year.By Monday, October 28, 589 early ballots have been received in Jefferson County. According to Jefferson County Election Commissioner Kris Riggle, “This is on trend to be a bit higher than normal with the exception of 2020 where we had record numbers due to COVID.” Gage County Election Commissioner Dawn Hill reported a similar trend on Wednesday, October 30, “We have had 5,013 early ballot requests and have received 4,172 back. This is the highest number outside of 2020 (COVID) where every registered voter was sent an early ballot application.”On Monday, November 4, Nebraska Secretary of state Bob Evnan predicted a 74 percent turnout.Evnan reported that 357,000 ballots have been sent to Nebraska voters, “Which is a lot, but still lower than 2020. So far, we’ve had 229,000 of those returned and accepted at the county election offices. So 229,000 people have voted, their ballots are in and have been accepted.”As of Monday, 332,455 registered Nebraska voters had successfully cast ballots for the November 5 General Election, including 72,049 voters that voted early in person at county election offices and 260,406 voters that voted early by mail.The state as a whole has 1,264,149 registered voters.
