Local McDonald’s to Close Tuesday

By Gordon Hopkins
The McDonald’s restaurant located at 1429 K Street in Fairbury will be closing its doors on Tuesday, August 30.
Amy Hickey, a manager at that location who has worked for McDonald’s for more than 20 years, said she was unable to provide any additional information but did confirm that Tuesday would be the business’s last day.
FJN has reached out to McDonald’s Corporate but as of press time has not received a response.
While no additional information was available from official sources, a letter to employees of the restaurant from McDonald’s management was posted on Facebook. The letter confirms the restaurant is being closed permanently.
A McDonald’s Restaurant in Beatrice was closed in 2010, demolished and a new building constructed in its place. The letter indicated that is not an option for the Fairbury location, “The physical plant does not support McDonald’s current building and equipment requirements, and it is not financially viable to build a new restaurant.”
Hickey confirmed that employees are being offered positions at other regional locations. The letter indicates, employees will be offered positions at either the Beatrice location or one of five locations in Lincoln.
