Eldean Rosenthal and Rosanne Rogers were Diller High School honor graduates.FHS golfers Greg Gibson, Gary Griffee, Tony Muller and Bob Parks won the Twin Rivers championship.First congressional delegates were "pledged" to democratic presidential candidates including Edward M. Kennedy, Eugene J. McCarthy, Edmund S. Muskie, John V. Lindsay, George C. Wallace, George McGovern, Henry M. Jackson, Hubert M. Humphrey and Shirley Chisholm. Sixty of 63 Republican delegates were "pledged" to Richard Nixon, two to Paul McCloskey and one to Spiro Agnew.1976Everette Schward, who was retired from the faculty at SCC-Fairbury, was named by Jefferson County commissioners as county superintendent of schools. Setting new records in the Kiwanis Club-sponsored elementary boys track and field-meet were Todd McBride and Mike Seggerman, grades 3-5 high jump, and Jim Nutsch, grades 7-8 long jump. Rod Goebel tied the grade 5-6 high jump mark of Todd Roth.SCC-Fairbury golfers won the Region IX golf championship by a record low total and record margin. Coach Joe Chapman's team members were Rennie Sasse, meet medalist, Steve Harrison and Mark Rogers of Lincoln and Greg Gibson of Fairbury.1982Barbed wire collectors from nine states attended the Nebraska association's meeting at Fairbury.1990Howell Lumber Co., which had operated in Fairbury since 1922, closed its doors.2000Fairbury Junior-Senior High trap team coach Dennis Steele was named coach of the year at the Game and arks awards banquet in Doniphan.A record number of entries were in Fairbury for the Third Annual Eagles Club Car Show. The show hosted more than 60 entries. All proceeds from the event were donated to the American Cancer Society and the National Diabetes Association.2002A rash of pipe bomb scares resulted in local mail changes around Jefferson County. Since Sept 11, the United States Postal Service has issued a directive that all customers who had a “rural-style” or curbside mailboxes were to open or remove all doors to them immediately. The door area was to be left open, preferably tied down as to not blow shut or taken completely off. Outgoing mail was not to be placed in curbside-style mailboxes.2006The Fairbury Kiwanis Club held a bike rodeo at Jefferson Intermediate School.
