1926Large crowds attended the Penney Store opening in Fairbury. J.C. Bartley was manager.1946Employees of the Fairbury poultry packing plant of C.A. Swanton & Sons rejected a unionization plan by a vote of 33-18. The plant was later acquired by Campbells Foods and moved to Tecumseh. Its building was directly south of the city power plant.1966Roy Stiles bought the Glenn LeRoy two-story building on the north side of the square. It housed the LeRoy Jewelry Store owned by Stiles.1982Permanent school crossing signs in Fairbury replaced the former signs, which had to be rolled out daily by school custodians.Ed Durfee’s slow-pitch softball team took the city title, defeating Griffey’s; then Grace Lutheran “B,” Church League champions.
