Makenna Schramm: National Champion

placing 2nd at State, Makenna Schramm had made history, but to her was bittersweet time. A few months later and Makenna would be traveling all across the globe competing and wanting to improve.Makenna was invited once again to be a representative on the Nebraska wrestling team down in the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Disney Duals in Orlando, Florida. This time around, with more experience, and ability to execute the new teachings that had come Schramm’s way had paid dividend as she went on to dominate while going undefeated (12-0) to become a National Champion in the 175 division.What changes had been made, simple ones Schramm was able to explain, “I finally learned to trust myself because last year I was still learning all these moves and different techniques. This year I knew what to expect, I’ve learned these moves, I could see what my opponents wanted to, and now have the knowledge and strength to capitalize on those opportunities when I got them and I think over that weekend I did that well.”Riding plenty of momentum led Schramm to Fargo, North Dakota, where she would go 4-2 over the weekend, with the two loses coming from Schramm willingly going up in a weight class to have more competition.Two of the toughest tournaments in the summer wasn’t enough as Schramm’s drive to compete was still very much alive. One last tournament for Schramm came down in the Deep South Duals in Hoover, Alabama. Schramm had another great outing going 12-2 on the last weekend of July and as a member of the Black Mamba squad, and that team was able to take 1st place at the duals capping off a summer to remember for the National Champion.
