Marian Joyce (Zweifel) May

Marian Joyce (Zweifel) May passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at her son and daughter in law’s home, surrounded by three generations of close family.Marian was born on April 23, 1933, on her family’s farm near Fairbury, Nebraska. She was the oldest of the two children born to Harry Kenning and Grace Marie (Johnson) Zweifel. Marian is survived by three children, William (Irene) May, Lori (Francis) McDermott, and Cindy May. She was beloved “Grannie” to 4 Grandchildren, Jessica, Rachael, Jacob, and Casey, and three Great Grandchildren, Stella, Andrea, and Annika. Marian’s mother, father, and brother Dean Loren Zweifel preceded her in death.Marian was a skilled keyboard musician, becoming her church organist at age 16, and often filled the home with various genres of music. Marian had an extraordinarily strong work ethic working as a musician and real estate agent. Marian has been described as “always having a smile.” She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and happiest when family surrounded her. She was also “Mom” and “Grannie” to many other people she was not related to. Her piano students gave her boundless joy – A memorial service will be held for Marian at the end of the regular church service on Sunday, March 20, 2022, 10:00 am at Redeemer Evangelic Lutheran Church.Marian’s family requests that memorial gifts in lieu of flowers be sent to Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church at 750 Moss Ave., Chico, CA 95926, where she was a member and church organist for twelve years.
