Marvin Henry Schultis

Marvin Henry Schultis, 84, of Fairbury NE passed away Monday, April 22, 2024. Marvin was born on May 2, 1939, to hard-working parents, Irvin George Schultis and Edna Iona Haake Schultis as their firstborn child. He grew up on a farm south of Harbine NE until 4th grade. Then, the family moved just 3 miles southwest and Marvin attended District 74 Rural School. Marvin grew up with three younger siblings: two sisters and one brother. They milked ten heads of cows a day. He was in charge of ensuring the milk was separated from the cream. He gathered eggs from 400 laying hens. The eggs were taken to the basement to cool and to be stored. They sold the cream and eggs to be able to buy sugar and creamer. Slopping hogs was another responsibility Marvin had. He also had the pleasure of taking care of four Shetland ponies. His sister Esther was his chief assistant when breaking them. Marvin graduated 8th grade while living on that farm. Marvin graduated from Fairbury High School in 1957. He was enrolled in 4-H, FFA, and Bull Ag. He showed a lot of cattle, hogs, and sheep throughout his childhood. Upon completion of High School, Marvin joined the Army National Guard Reserves and became a member of Military Post 24. After his military service, he helped his father on the family farm. He started up his own livestock business. He was a 4-H leader and the country fair superintendent for 25 years. During this time, he reconnected with Ardys Pauline Logan. They met when he was just 8 years old through 4-H and rural America. They were joined in marriage on July 19, 1964. They lived east of Fairbury until Ardys passed in 2017. He continued to farm after her passing right up until he became ill and was hospitalized on February 26, 2024. On April 20, 2019, he received the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award (Honoring families for 100 years of farm ownership). He was extremely proud of his accomplishments. Marvin is survived by his son Ryan Schultis (Chris) of Tryon, NE. Daughter Lisa Schultis of Santa Cruz, California, and Tami Schultis Theye of Fairbury, NE. He is also survived by his brother Wayne Schultis, and his sisters Esther Hall, and Lorene Rhinehart. Grandchildren include Tara Beu, Tyler Theye, Kayla Manley, Michaela Schultis, Jared Schultis, and Aubrey Schultis. He was also blessed with a great-grandchild, Aiden Brungardt. Marvin was well-known for his love of engaging conversation and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His keen sense of humor and amusing anecdotes never failed to keep his unassuming audience amused and entertained. Services will be Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury, with viewing at 9:00 a.m. before the service at the church only.
