More File For Offices Before March 1 Deadline

Tuesday, February 15, was the final day for incumbents to file for re-election in Jefferson County. Non-incumbents still have another week to file for elected office. That deadline is Tuesday, March 1.Some races may auto-advance to the General Election, depending on filings. Notice of vacancies for village board, Educational Service Units, and several other sub-divisions that appear only on the General Election Ballot will be published prior to the General Election.Additional candidates may have filed after this story was written.Neither the County Attorney (Joseph Casson) nor the County Assessor (Mary Banahan) have filed for re-election.County CommissionersIncumbent County Commissioner Mark Schoenrock (Republican), District 1, is being challenged by Democrat Glenn Behrends.Jefferson County Commissioner Michael Dux (R), District 3, has also filed.City CouncilFour incumbents currently up for re-election to the Fairbury City Council have filed: Tim Polson (Ward 1), Brian Schmidt (Ward 2), Dustin Schmidt (Ward 3) and Phillip E. Rogge (Ward 4). Dustin Schmidt was appointed to the city council to replace councilperson Rick Carmichael, who passed away June 13, 2021. There were no challengers as of press time.SheriffIncumbent sheriff Nick Georgi (R) and deputy Cody Barry (R) and former deputy Wilbur Young (R) have filed for Jefferson County Sheriff. Georgi was appointed as sheriff by county commissioners after the resignation in May of 2021.Airport AuthorityFiled for Airport Authority are Sandi Decker, Kent Preston. School BoardsThere are three candidates for Fairbury Public Schools Board of Education: incumbents Barry Schwab, Jonathan Winters and non-incumbent Jerold Ebke.Tri-County School District Board: Brian Quackenbush (Saline), Derrick Damrow (Gage) and Brian Scherling (Saline).Meridian School District Board: Joy Barton (Thayer/Fillmore), Jason Bartels (Jefferson) and J. Scott Sobotka (Saline).Village BoardsGlenn Behrends has filed for the Diller Village Board.Robert Bonin and Jay Schroeder have filed for the Plymouth Village Board.County ClerkKristina Riggle (R) has filed for Jefferson County Clerk. There are no challengers as of press time.
