New Additions to Fairbury’s Veterans Memorial Just in Time for Memorial Day

The Jefferson County Veterans Memorial in Fairbury City Park has seen some upgrades in preparation for the Memorial Day weekend on May 24-26, 2025. An additional 35 names have been added to the veteran and donor wall.
Other planned updates that are expected to be completed by Memorial Day are a new entryway wall with plants placed in the urns and two stacks of cannonballs will be added to the cannon display.
Visitors to the memorial will also see a new sign. The original American Legion neon sign that was on the legion building downtown has been relocated to the memorial, attached to a pole near the baseball field. The neon has been replaced and the sign is covered in plexiglass for protection. It will be lit from 5 a.m. to -11 p.m. daily once it is connected.
Mick Suey, one of the driving forces behind the installation of the memorial, recently posted on Facebook, “Special thanks to: Tony, Scott, Nate and the City gang for all of their help. Josh from Quality Monuments, Dalton and the gang from Endicott Clay, Dave from Superior Water, veteran Doug Kapke, John and Lottman Concrete, Beatrice Concrete and of course the volunteers who help me run the Fairbury City Museum. The memorial would not be as beautiful as it is without help!”
