Omaha Woman Accused of Drug Charge Reaches Plea Agreement

An Omaha woman charged with possession of methamphetamine has reached a plea agreement with the state.
Crystal Denise Urbano, age 24, appeared in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Urbano was originally charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony punishable by two years in prison, 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine.
In accordance with the plea agreement, Urbano pleaded No Contest to a reduced charge of attempted possession, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The defendant was first arrested on August 6, 2021. At approximately 9:32 p.m., Jefferson County Deputies were dispatched to Highway 8 and railroad Street in Steele City to respond to a 911 report of a vehicle from Omaha that had run out of gas. Deputies made contact with the caller, Urbano, and a man who identified himself as Adrian Carrera.
According to the arrest affidavit, dispatch advised that Carrera did not have a driver’s license. The affidavit also said, “Dispatch also advised that Carrera’s information came back to an ‘Angel Carrera’ with the same date of birth and that he had two arrest warrants, one out of Chicago, IL with no extradition, and one out of Papillion, NE with full extradition. The dispatcher contacted Pappillion and confirmed the warrant and that they were willing to extradite Carrera if we could confirm that it was the same person.”
Both Carrera and Urbano were arrested. Urbano appeared in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, via webcam from the Jefferson County Law enforcement center. Judge Bauer agreed to release Urbano on a PR (Personal Recognizance) bond with a condition that she not consume any alcohol or controlled substances. The judge warned the defendant that if she violates the conditions of her bond, she could be returned to jail.
A hearing was scheduled for October 4, 2021, but the defendant failed to appear. A warrant was issued for her arrest. She was arrested on that warrant on August 12, 2022. Another warrant was issued after she again failed to appear for court as scheduled on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
Another hearing is scheduled for December 14, 2022. As of press time, the defendant remains in custody.
