Trojans Win Opening Round Match Against Doniphan-Trumbull At State Basketball Tournament, 56-41 The time of the year that despite having a strong record of 23-4, Tri County could care less about what they’ve done.It was a successful season, runner-up in the Pioneer Conference, MUDECAS Class A champions for the first time since 1983 and Class C2-6 District champions is quite a season all to get too being ranked a number six seed taking on Doniphan-Trumbull in the first round of the state basketball tournament in Lincoln on Thursday.It was a battle Thursday afternoon at the Devaney Center (March 9) that had Tri County and Doniphan-Trumbull doing anything within their power to survive and move on.The first half was as tight as it can get with Tri County falling behind 28-29 with signs of foul trouble playing a factor and figuring out how to stop the three-pointers in the second half.They found their answers playing smart, and playing solid defense as the third quarter was a low scoring affair as the teams were unable to get the lid off the basket as that quarter would have a total of seven points scored, two from Tri County and five from Doniphan-Trumbull and the score 30-34.In the fourth quarter Tri County came alive on both ends of the floor with some great offense to get back in the lead, then the defense and rebounding created even more offense for the Trojans.In what was four straight possessions that Tri County secured the rebound, to find open men down the court for the fast-break extending the lead as the free-throw shots were falling for Tri County to ice the game and advance on 56-41.Today (March 11) at 3:15 p.m. at the Devaney Center, Tri County will be going against the No. 2 seed Amherst with the opportunity at the State Championship on the line for tomorrow Saturday (March 11) with that game being at 4:15 p.m. at the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
