Onward To The Last Set

Entering the last month of volleyball competition left for the teams that the Fairbury Journal-News covers, conference play is right around the corner with Districts coming over the horizon as teams look to put the finishing touches on post-season action coming their way. Fairbury Lady Jeffs would find themselves on the road Tuesday, September 26th going against Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer as the Lady Jeffs were swept 0-3 in that contest.Coming away with solid performances upfront was Destiny Vocelka as the she reached double digits with 11 kills, Eliza Kroeker had eight kills, and Micah Friesen had seven kills. The duo of Deja Vocelka, and Taryn Hinman each had double digits for assists with Hinman leading the team with 20 and Vocelka having 10.Vocelka was able to lead the team with two aces served and Alecia Bedlan hand one ace served. Fairbury looked for answers as they went on the road as they took on Fillmore Central on Thursday, September 28th as they swept their opponents 3-0 with the sets going 25-6, 25-15, and 25-10. With a strong win Fairbury would be on the road for Saturday, September 30th at the Raymond Central invite with coverage from that in the Wednesday edition. Thayer Central Lady Titans sweep on the road Tuesday, September 26th at David City winning 2-0 against Wilber-Clatonia and then David City.For Thayer Central it was Jadyn Bowman coming away with nine kills against W.C to lead the team in the front. Ella Brueggemann had led the team with 11 assists and Olivia Wiedel contributed six assists. A team total of six aces served as Ella Brueggemann led the team with three, Jessie Kayser, Paige Tietjen, and Olivia Wiedel each had one ace.Against David City some of the notable performances came by Olivia Wiedel having 11 assists, and Ella Brueggemann having six assists. Brueggemann along with Jessie Kayser each had six kills in that game. The biggest stat coming up front on the defensive side as Thayer Central finished with nine blocks as a team with Piper Havel having three, Kayser and Jadyn Bowman each had two, while Halle Johnson and Ella Brueggemann had one block each.Thayer Central went to battle with Centennial on Thursday, September 28th at home as that game would go to the five sets as Thayer Central pulled off the 3-2 victory as the sets went 25-14, 25-19, 25-27, 25-27, and then 15-6. Thayer Central would be on the road as they take on Sutton on Tuesday, October 3rd. Tri County Lady Trojans go to four sets winning 3-1 on the road against Exeter-Milligan/Friend on Monday, September 25th with the sets going 20-25, 25-20, 27-25, and 25-20. Tri County has a brief break as they will be gearing up for the road as they take on Wilber-Clatonia on Tuesday, October 3rd. Diller-Odell Lady Griffins start the week off with a 3-0 sweep on Tuesday, September 26th against Johnson-Brock as the sets would unfold 25-22, 25-16, and 25-15. Leading the offense for facilitating was Keira Hennerberg as she finished with 27 assists as Myleigh Weers the main benefactor from the passes finished with a 13 kills, and nearly having double digits in kills as well was Baileigh Vilda getting eight kills.The duo Berkelee Beekman, and Aidan McKinney each had six kills while Hennerberg contributed five kills as well. D.O would reach double digits in aces served with an even 10 as Baileigh Vilda and Tatum Schroeder led the team with three aces, Hennerberg had two, as Ashley Duis and Beekman each contributed one ace. D.O would host triangular action on Thursday, September 28th going against Meridian and Dorchester.D.O would have a strong showing winning 2-0 against Dorchester and then 2-1 against Meridian. Diller-Odell will be back home Tuesday, October 3rd as they host Fillmore Central. Meridian Lady Mustangs look strong at home with a 3-0 sweep on Tuesday, September 26th against Nebraska Lutheran as the sets go 25-12, 25-18, and 25-15. Leading the Mustangs offense came by the passing of Kaira Niederklein as she ended the night with 25 assists as Jaala Stewart came away with 17 kills, Jaylee Sobotka had six, as McKenzie Hofstetter and Taelyn Filipi each had five kills.A team total of six aces served, Braxtyn Rut had three to lead the team, Sobotka, Stewart, and Olivia Schafer each had one ace as well.Meridian would be competing in triangular action on Thursday, September 28th as they headed to Diller-Odell and would take on Dorchester as well with the game against Dorchester being a sweep 2-0 victory but would lose 1-2 against Diller-Odell.Meridian will be back on the road as they go to High Plains in triangular action on Tuesday, October 3rd. Wilber-Clatonia Lady Wolverines get swept on the road in triangular action on Tuesday, September 26th at David City losing their two games against Thayer Central and David City 0-2. W.C would bounce back on the road as they got the sweep 3-0 against Shelby-Rising City on Thursday, September 28th.The offense for W.C had a pair of facilitators with Jera Schuerman and Lauren Kuhlmann each finishing with a sweet 16 assists. Schuerman was able to lead the team with four aces served along with Kuhlmann, Claire Watson, and Haleah Schuerman each having one ace. Jera and Haleah Schuerman each had reached double digits will 10 kills each, while Breanna Spilker and Lauren Kuhlmann each had seven kills and Madison Vogel had five kills.Defensively for W.C Haleah Schuerman led the team with 18 digs, Breanna Spilker had 11 digs, Shali Mccright had nine digs, Jera Schuerman had eight digs, and Lauren Kuhlman had seven digs. Madison Vogel and Breanna Spilker each had one block as well.W.C will be back home on Tuesday, October 3rd as they host Tri County. Southern Lady Raiders swept 0-3 at home on Tuesday, September 26th with the sets going 11-25, 5-25, and 9-25 against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley.Southern would then lose at home again against Palmyra and Freeman on Thursday, September 28th. Southern will be back home hosting Fairbury on Tuesday, October 3rd.
