Quilts of Valor

Six Quilts of Valor were presented to veterans at this year’s Jefferson County Fair in Fairbury. Here are their stories.

Jerry Talbot was drafted in January of 1958, and did his basic training at Fort Hood, Texas. That happened to be the same time Elvis Presley was also doing his basic training also at Fort Hood, so he had the opportunity to see him several times around the area. After training he was sent to Hanou, Germany aboard the USS Darby. While in Germany, he was responsible for driving a staff car for a Colonel, and also for delivering mail across Germany, and for guarding the Berlin Wall.
