Remembering

It was a day we all remember where we were when it happened.It was a Tuesday, press day, I was met at the front door by FJN bookkeeper Chris Ruzicka.“New York is under attack by terrorists,” she said.Fred ran home and grabbed a TV to hook up in the press room. We watched the incoming reports as it happened, while trying to work on the paper.We were so stunned by what was happening, the issue that day was like any other. We re-grouped after the press run and began preparing coverage for Friday.I called Ed Lytle at home. He ran the armory here in town. His wife said he was going to lock himself in and she’d have him call me.As a reporter, you try to follow any lead you can, but it was surreal that week talking to Ed, talking to a lot of people.September 11, 2001 was a date none of us will forget. It is unfortunate we have to have a memory of that particular day, but we do and we honor everyone that sacrificed that day for freedom and for human life.It was a day we all came together for America, the principles, the morals and the integrity that makes this the single greatest nation ever conceived.Come together this day for those same ideals and we, as a nation, need to stay together for those same principles, morals and integrity every single day.
