Rowdy’s Has New Owner

After months of speculation, a Fairbury staple is now under new ownership. Rod Schoenrock, the owner of Rowdy’s Steakhouse, announced the sale of the popular eatery to long-time employee Nels Sorensen.The announcement came March 8 of this year, when Schoenrock posted on social media, “I have made a deal to sell Rowdy’s Steakhouse to Nels Sorensen (Jr). The transfer will take place April 1st. Nels has worked for me for around eight years and knows the kitchen as well as anyone. I plan on being around for a while to help him as he gets used to the day-to-day things. He plans on keeping the name the same and the menu. I’m sure he will be posting more information as we get closer to the 1st.”Schoenrock first opened Rowdy’s in 2007. Last year, Schoenrock announced his intention to retire and that he was looking to sell the business.Rowdy’s will be closed April 1 through 3 for inventory and maintenance and will reopen on Tuesday, April 4.Sorensen said, “I’m very excited to continue the legacy Rod has built with Rowdy’s. Let me first reassure all our loyal customers that no major changes are planned any time soon. We will still offer the same menu, same hours, same staff and same Rowdy’s experience you’ve come to know and love. The elephant ear, broasted chicken, prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays and the rest of the menu aren’t going anywhere. I hope to continue making Rowdy’s a staple of Fairbury and Jefferson County for years to come.”
