Sasse Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

Ben Sasse, the former U.S. Senator from Nebraska, revealed this week that he has been diagnosed with metastasized, stage-four pancreatic cancer.
Sasse made the announcement on a social media post on Tuesday, December 23. He wrote, “Advanced pancreatic is nasty stuff; it’s a death sentence. But I already had a death sentence before last week too — we all do.”
Benjamin Eric Sasse, a Republican, began serving as the junior United States senator for Nebraska in 2015. In 2014, Sasse ran for a vacant seat in the U.S. Senate. He defeated Democratic nominee David Domina, 65 percent to 31 percent. In 2020, Sasse was reelected to a second term. In late 2022, Sasse resigned his position to accept a job as the president of the University of Florida. He resigned from that position in 20224, citing his wife’s health issues.
After the news was announced, Governor Jim Pillen said, “We know Ben will give his fight against cancer all he’s got. A relentless advocate for Nebraska values — especially the pro-life movement, agriculture, and common sense — Ben’s love of service and the people of our state is unmistakable.”
U.S. Representative Don Bacon also released a statement, “Angie and I are heartbroken by the news shared by our friend Ben Sasse. He is a strong friend who I love to hear from. We are keeping Ben and his family in our prayers and are grateful for his willingness to share his faith and trust in the Almighty during such a difficult moment, reminding us of the eternal promise God has given all of us when we put our faith in Him.”
