Sean Molloy To Be New FPS Superintendent

The Fairbury Public Schools Board of Education has selected FPS High School Principal Sean Molloy as the new Superintendent for the next school year, replacing Stephen Grizzle, who recently announced his resignation.The board met Saturday morning, January 21, 2023, and approved a new contract with Molloy. Board President, Angie Judd issued a statement later that day, “Last week after learning of Mr. Grizzle’s resignation, the board of education negotiating committee met and discussed options moving forward. The committee felt fortunate to have a strong candidate within the district, who for four years has been a part of and understands the needs of FPS.“With confidence, the committee recommended Mr. Molloy for the position. We are excited to announce that the board offered Sean the superintendent position this morning and he accepted.“Together with the board, Stephen and Sean will work to ensure a smooth transition. We are excited for the future of the district. Please join us in congratulating Superintendent-Elect, Mr. Molloy!”Molloy has been in education since 2012. Molloy started in an elementary classroom at Kahoa Elementary in Lincoln Public Schools. He was also an instructional coach at Clinton Elementary in LPS. In 2019, Molloy became the principal at Jefferson Intermediate in Fairbury and in 2021 he became the secondary principal at Fairbury High School.Molloy received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 2011, and also earned a Master of Education in Educational Administration from The University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 2015. He also received his Education Specialist Degree from Doane University in 2021. In 2022, he was named the Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals (NSASSP) Region I New Principal of the Year and also serves as the Region I Treasurer. Molloy was a member of the Nebraska Council of School Administrators (NCSA) for four years and belonged to NSASSP and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) each for two years.Last year, the NASSP chose Molloy as the 2022 Outstanding New Principal of the Year, an award presented annually to a principal who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in their school, region, and at the state level. The winner will have demonstrated their enthusiasm for the principalship by support from students, parents, teachers and peers.“He combines many great qualities together, such as enthusiastic creativity, empathy for the students, staff, and patrons of the district, effective personnel management through mentoring and accountability, the desire to stay abreast of best-practice pedagogy, and all with an infectious passion for work. He maintains his focus on our students’ academic progress and eliminates barriers to their success,” Grizzle said at the time. “During my time with Mr. Molloy, I have watched him grow as an administrator and educator and marvel at what our students and staff are able to accomplish through his leadership.”Molloy told FJN, “I'd like to thank the Fairbury Board of Education for their support and confidence in me as the next Fairbury Public Schools superintendent. I'd also like to thank Mr. Stephen Grizzle for the opportunities he has provided me in my four years in Fairbury. His encouragement, advice and mentorship have prepared me well for this role. My priority has and always will be to serve the community of Fairbury and I'm excited for this opportunity to continue working with wonderful staff, students and parents. I look forward to building on our District's strengths and identifying areas of need in the years to come.”Meanwhile, Grizzle will be moving on to an interim superintendent position for one year at South Central Unified District #5 (Sandy Creek & Lawrence-Nelson). Grizzle will over the school dissolve into two independent districts, “I was planning on retiring after the 2023-2024 school year and this interim opportunity presented itself. It is something that does not happen often and is definitely unique. There are many details that have to be coordinated and implemented for them to become independent districts again. My task will be to help them navigate this struggle and this opportunity will also allow me to remain in the Fairbury community.”
