Search Warrant Leads to Multiple Drug Arrests

Suspects from Fairbury, Wymore and Hebron were arraigned on drug charges in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge. Sayge R. Peters, age 34, of Wymore, and Tara S. Peters, age 31, of Fairbury, are each charged with five counts, including four class 4 felonies: possession of a methamphetamine, possession of high-concentrate THC (tetrahydracannabinol), possession of buprenorphine hydrochloride and possession of clonazepam.Class 4 felonies are punishable by up to two years in prison, nine to 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000. The defendants are also each charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction that carries a $100 fine. Also in court was Erin L. Lane, age 22, of Hebron, who is charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Arrest AffidavitOn April 26, 2024, at approximately 6:55 a.m., the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office executed a search warrant at a residence in Fairbury. Multiple individuals were found within the residence.According to the arrest affidavit, “A small yellow silicone container with a wax-like substance was discovered in the kitchen, which was converted into a bedroom by Sayge and Tara Peters. The wax substance emitted an odor consistent with marijuana, which I recognized from my training and experience. Suitcases located in the kitchen were found to contain drug paraphernalia and used bags with a white crystalline substance. A red Fairbury Jeffs duffle bag revealed numerous clear bags, some of which included a white crystalline substance and some being new. There were many items consistent with the use and distribution of controlled substances, such as a scoop, funnel, and clear numbered bags. A Nebraska Department of Corrections Released Inmate Identification card and journal with Sayge Peters's name was also found in the red duffel bag.” A search of a purse in the possession of Tara Peters reportedly uncovered “numerous pills.”In a room where, according to the affidavit, Erin Lane resides, deputies located, “a mirror with a white crystalline substance and a glass pipe with a burnt bulb containing a white substance were discovered in plain view.” During the search, Tara Peters was handcuffed and placed in the front seat of a patrol vehicle. The other suspects were placed in the back seat. The affidavit also indicates that, at one point, while in the patrol vehicle, Tara Peters was able to slip out of her handcuffs and attempted to unlock the car door. Other CasesIn a separate case, Sayge Peters, is also charged with assault causing bodily injury, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. The defendant could also be required to pay restitution. On April 15, 2024, at approximately 2:56 p.m., deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence in Fairbury, responding to a report of an “assault in progress between two males,” according to the Warrantless Arrest Affidavit.The affidavit indicated that, upon arriving in the area, a deputy stopped a vehicle and, “made contact with the passenger who was later identified as Sayge Peters who had blood on his hands and obvious injuries to the knuckles.” The deputy took photographs of the injuries. The deputy wrote in the affidavit that he then made contact with the alleged victim, who, “had an obvious injury to his upper right lip. No visible injuries were present on his hands as the blood appeared to be from other injuries sustained. Blood spatter was present on the door and wall to the building (where) the assault had taken place.” Photographs were taken of the scene. Peters was taken into custody and booked at the Jefferson County Jail. He was later released on a $3,500 (10 percent) bond. Sayge Peters pleaded Not Guilty in this matter. This is not Peters' first brush with the law. On January 16, 2016, he was sentenced in Gage County District Court to up to four years in prison for two counts of possession of a controlled subsidence, each a class 4 felony. He was released on May 16, 2018.
