Second McDonald’s Robbery Suspect Arraigned

Michall A. Gillians, age 42, of Lincoln, appeared in Jefferson County Court for arraignment via webcam from the Jefferson County Jail. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.Gillians is charged with robbery, a class 2 felony punishable by up to 50 years in prison.At approximately 11:19 p.m., the evening of Saturday, April 16, Jefferson County Deputies and an ambulance responded to a 911 call from a McDonald’s employee who said there had been a robbery and an assault.According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, “During the investigation it was determined that 2 black males entered the back door of McDonald’s during closing while a cash drawer count was being conducted. During the robbery, a struggle between one of the suspects and the female employee ensued and she obtained injuries from the assault. The suspects fled McDonald’s after getting a small amount of cash. A search of the vehicle led to identifying items which could led to the identity of additional suspects. There was also a pistol located in the vehicle that was later determined to be a stolen firearm.”According to Jefferson County Sheriff Nick Georgi, “The result of a thorough investigation into the Robbery that took place at the McDonald’s in Fairbury, Jefferson County, Nebraska on April 16, 2022 has resulted in another arrest being made. On June 9th, 2022 an arrest warrant was issued for 42-year-old Michall A. Gillians of Lincoln, Nebraska. Gillians was charged with Robbery in connection to the alleged Robbery that took place at McDonald’s in Fairbury on April 16, 2022. This warrant came from hours of investigation into the incident with the cooperation of many witnesses and citizens of Fairbury.”Gillians was originally held on a bond of$100,000 (10 percent). He asked if the bond could be lowered.County Attorney Joseph Casson opposed any bond reduction, noting both the defendant’s lack of ties to the community and “numerous convictions” in Georgia, including a felony conviction.Judge Bauer agreed to lower the bond to $25,000 (10 percent), and said, “That’s probably as low as I am willing to go.”The defendant requested court-appointed counsel and attorney Benjamin Murray was assigned to represent him.Another suspect, Marzeanis M. Coleman, 34, of Lincoln, was arrested in the early morning hours after the robbery.Coleman is facing five charges: robbery, a class 2 felony punishable by one to 50 years in prison; first degree assault, also a class 2 felony; possession of a stolen firearm, a class 2A felony punishable by 20 years in prison; operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, a class 4 felony punishable by up to two years in prison, 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine; and first offense reckless driving, a class 3 misdemeanor punishable by three months in jail, a $500 fine and up to a year license revocation.Bond for Coleman was set at $250,000 (10 percent), meaning Coleman would have to come up with $25,000. As of press time, he remains in custody.Coleman is represented by Public Defender Scott Gropp.
