Seniors Legion Baseball Recap:

Fairbury Landsharks:
The local Landshark Seniors were a team that had a mixed bag of results this year, but by the end was able to have a winning record of 11-9. The Landsharks had a good (.283) batting average, racked up 146 hits, 105 RBI, 125 runs, and stole 38 bases.
Defensively a 4.433 ERA, 137 strikeouts, and behind that pitching a defense that had a (.912) fielding percentage with 150 defensive assists and 379 putouts. Though coming into the Class B Senior Legion Districts Area 4 tournament on a two game skid, the Landsharks have proven to be a capable team that could make a deep run if things get rolling. On Friday, July 24 the Landsharks were able to pull out the close 3-1 victory against Sutton. Brody Kroll was on the mound for Fairbury going seven innings allowing one four hits and one run along with 10 strikeouts. Blake Starr, Jayden Schmidt and Austin Novotny each managed one hit. Starr was able to bring across the first run grounding out in the first inning. Corbin Slater scored on an error throw, and Schmidt hitting a single up the center brought across the nail in the coffin in the top of the sixth. On July 23 Fairbury would lose a close one 2-3 to Lincoln Christian. Austin Novotny would take the loss allowing four hits and three runs over six innings striking out six with no walks. Of the three hits Fairbury was able to get, Austin Novotny, Jacob Martin and Ethan Smith contributed to those. Martin and Auggie Judd each had one RBI in that game. In a double elimination tournament Fairbury needed to bounce back and did so by staying alive to win a close one 3-1 against Crete on July 24. Jayden Schmidt was on the mound lasting seven innings, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out four with one walk to claim the win. Brody Kroll was able to hit a solo home run in the fourth to get the offense going and also hit a triple to go two for three at the plate. Corbin Slater and Brendon Runge each managed one hit as well. Due to rain delay, Fairbury will have taken on Lincoln-Christian on Tuesday, July 26, more in Friday’s FJN.
