Six Area Wrestlers Qualify For Girls State Tournament

The dust has settled from girls district wrestling and in the clearing a handful of names have punched their ticket to state wrestling, for the Fairbury Journal News, six in wrestlers to be exact.At state wrestling starting on Tuesday, February 18 the first round will begin at 4 p.m., and on Wednesday, February 19 consolation rounds will begin at 9 a.m. Championship finals will be later that night at 6:30 p.m. Three Jeffs QualifyTraveling to Pierce to compete in the Class B-3 Districts on Saturday, February 8 was the Fairbury Lady Jeffs. This would be a historical week for the Lady Jeffs in a number of ways for the program. In the process of qualifying three wrestlers for state, this the first time in the program’s history. A career win total record was set, and a two-time qualifier became the second to do in the program’s history.Those efforts came by three seniors: Regan Kapke qualifying in the 105-pound division for her first time at state; Heidi Ramos was able to qualify for state wrestling for the first time in the 155-pound division, and with her efforts. Ramos would also secure the 75th career win mark making her the Lady Jeffs career wins leader. Joining them at state for her second go around and the second lady Jeff to qualify in back-to-back years is Addison Marschman in the 235-pound division.At districts for the Lady Jeffs placing, Kapke would take third place, Ramos finished at fourth and Marschman would take second place.Headed into State with their respective records has Regan Kapke at 30-13; Heidi Ramos at 20-17 and Addison Marschman at 32-6. Two Titans QualifyOn the road to Falls City to compete in the Class B-2 Districts on Saturday, February 8 was the Thayer Central Lady Titans. This would be a historical weekend for the Lady Titans program qualifying not one but two wrestlers to compete at wrestling for the first time in the school’s history.Those efforts came by Braelyn Degenhardt qualifying in the 130-pound division as she would take second place. Along with Keirsten Heinrichs qualifying in the 120-pound division taking fourth place.Entering the State wrestling tournament will have Braelyn Degenhardt with a record of 22-6 and Keirsten Heinrichs will have a record of 22-12. KlabenesRepresenting W-CAlso competing at the Class B-2 Districts on Saturday, February 8 was the Wilber-Clatonia Lady Wolverines. This would mark the first time in the program’s history to qualify a wrestler for state with that being made possible by Faith Klabenes finishing as runner-up in the 190-pound division.Headed into state wrestling Faith Klabenes will enter with a record of 26-5 on the year.
