Smith Signs With Midland For Basketball

Fairbury graduate Ethan Smith has signed with Midland University to play basketball.Smith was able to speak on that decision to continue his basketball career by saying that, “I spoke to Coach Schuknecht on a visit and he was extremely personable. He seemed like a down to earth coach who would be someone I’d love to play for. He showed me around their facilities and I loved everything I saw.“I was at the point in my recruitment where I was trying to narrow my choices down. I loved Midland, but they hadn’t said anything about basketball at that time. They were looking for a new head coach at the time. Eventually they found a new coach, so I sent my film to them. I guess they ended up liking what they saw because it was then they gave me the opportunity to play!”Smith reflected on his time playing for the Jeffs.“Playing at Fairbury has taught me the importance of good shot selection and pushing the tempo of the game so I’ll look to carry this on with my future.”Four years has come and gone and with all the games, practices and many memories made the ones that stood out to Smith will last a lifetime as he had reflected, “I think the game that sticks out to me the most was against Falls City my junior year. It was our last home game and I knew the seniors wanted to go out with a win. We were down one and I ended up taking the last shot, I made it. I was so excited to score the go ahead basket, and win the last home game of the year. Besides that, I just love the bus rides, team meals, long practices, and games because I got to spend that time with all of my teammates. I had a lot of fun over the years.”
