Spring Fever Strikes Again

By Randy Grosse First Published March 19, 1982As is the case with most area residents (I hate to admit this since I do enjoy winter), cabin fever is starting to take its toll and is becoming spring fever.And symptoms of cabin fever are compounded with four little ones around the house, perhaps even more so this year.Nathan, who turned three in February, is the terror of our house. He started the “terrible twos” at about one year and still seems to be going through that phase.But he is growing up, with his interests broadening and his attention span increasing almost daily.Also growing up — too fast for Mom and Dad — is daughter Miranda, who will celebrate her first birthday in May. Between crawling, creeping and attempts at walking, Miranda is no longer the baby who sits on the floor and plays. Rather she attacks any and everything within her reach.Daughter Nicole is still continuing her battle for attention about school activities Whatever her brother, Jason, has done, her class is also doing or will do.Jason was telling us of a food-sampling session held one day last year in first grade. Niki countered with some sampling in her kindergarten class. By the time they finished telling us about all the food they ate (no doubt ex-aggerating a bit) their Mother and I had lost our appetite, and wondered why neither became sick the day of their sampling program.Speaking of sickness, this winter brought more than our fair share to the Grosse household. Colds seemed to be a never-ending war. By the time one family member was winning the battle, another was starting.The illnesses were topped off last week when Jason came down with the chicken pox — our first episode with that childhood disease.He hasn't been that sick, and the experience probably has been of some benefit. He has learned more about how to help his Mother out around the house. And she and he are taking the time to get to know one another again by playing games, reading, etc.The only negative aspect, at least according to Jason, has been the baths in soda water. When not battling chicken pox, getting Jason in the tub every other day would be considered a miracle.Taking two baths a day for the past week has really gone against his grain. His main objection — “I'm getting all wrinkly.”So goes life at the Grosse household.
