Storm Watch This Weekend

Jefferson and Saline County Emergency Management is warning of potential snowfall this weekend, “Winter Storm Watch continues and may be upgraded in future forecasts for this weekend. Take the time to prepare yourself for the first forecasted snow of the season. Possible icy glaze before snow starts. Windy conditions could cause drifting and possibly white out conditions. North winds could gust over 25 mph (miles per hours). If this forecast stays it course for the weekend conditions will create hazardous driving. If you don't need to travel stay home where it's safe and warm. It may be possible for a time, depending on conditions, snow plows might not be out. Commute to work and school Monday may be delayed. Give our plow drivers room and time to make it safe for you.” According to the National Weather Services (NWS), the winter storm is expected to bring snow to eastern Nebraska and southwestern Iowa from Saturday afternoon into late Sunday night. Highest snowfall amounts are expected for southeast Nebraska and extreme southwest Iowa, where amounts could range from 6 to 12 inches. Lesser amounts are forecast to the north of 1 to 5 inches. Severe weather may continue into the week. NWS reports morning wind chills of -10 to -25 possible across eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa each morning Monday through Wednesday. The coldest wind chills are expected across portions of northeast Nebraska, and extreme cold advisories may eventually be needed.
