Superior Edges Lady Jeffs VB In Five-Set Thriller

In a highly anticipated showdown featuring two of the state’s top hitters, the Superior Wildcats narrowly defeated the Fairbury Jeffs in a five-set match on Friday. The game featured standout performances from Reagan Meyers of Superior and Fairbury’s Evelyn Timmons, who entered the contest ranked second and sixth, respectively, in total kills across all classes in the state. Meyers had amassed 311 kills, while Timmons had tallied 260 prior to the match-up.The Jeffs started strong, taking the first set 25-22 after maintaining the lead for most of the game. However, a sluggish start in the second set allowed the Wildcats to gain momentum, ultimately leading to a 17-25 loss for the Jeffs.Fairbury rebounded in the third set, securing a 25-18 victory, but their inconsistent play continued as they faltered in the fourth set. Despite initially taking the lead, the Jeffs stalled at 17-13 and fell 21-25.The decisive fifth set was a tightly contested battle, with both teams exchanging points. Ultimately, the Wildcats emerged victorious, clinching the set 15-13 and the match.Evelyn Timmons made history during the match, recording 34 kills to break the school’s single-match record, previously held by Emily Huss, who set the mark at 32 kills in 2022. Timmons, who also set the single-season kills record last year, has consistently delivered double-digit kills in every game this season, averaging 6.8 kills per set. She has recorded over 23 kills in five of the last seven matches for the Jeffs.In addition to her record-breaking performance, Timmons contributed 15 digs and two blocks against the Wildcats. Destiny Vocelka added 10 kills, Taryn Hinman had three service aces and 42 assists, and Sam Starr notched 25 digs. Superior’s Reagan Meyers led her team in both kills and service aces.The Lady Jeffs, now 10-6 on the season, faced HTRS at home on Tuesday.
