Suspect in 2019 Crystal Springs Homicide Arrested Again

Logan Evans, age 25, of Omaha, was arrested Sunday, July 14, by the Beatrice Police Department (BPD) for possessing a deadly weapon. Evans was previously convicted as an accessory in a 2019 homicide.


Due to prior felony convictions, Evans is prohibited from owning a firearm. Possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person is a class 1D felony in Nebraska, punishable by up to 50 years in prison.
According to BPD, a witness came to the police department, claiming to have a firearm belonging to Evans. The weapon, a Polymer80 PFC9 9mm pistol, was turned over to authorities.


An officer interviewed the witness, who indicated, Evans occasionally stays in the basement of the witness’ residence.


According to the Affidavit for Warrantless Arrest, the witness, “stated he went into the bathroom and observed the firearm on the bathroom sink counter and brought it into the police department.”
The officer also interviewed two other witnesses.
Evans was arrested that day by BPD.


Evans was one of five suspects charged in the death of Marc C. Jarrell of Lincoln. Jarrell was killed on July 1, 2019, at Crystal Springs Park in Fairbury. However, his body had been moved and was not discovered until July 4.


Evans was originally charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person. In accordance with a plea agreement, Evans pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of attempt of a class 2A felony, which is a class 3A felony, punishable by three years incarceration, followed by nine to 18 months of post-release supervision, and a $10,000 fine. Evans served three years in the Nebraska Department of Corrections and was released on November 27, 2023.
