Texas Man Fails to Appear for Court, Is In Federal Custody

Lee R. Alejandrez, age 28, of Rio Grande, Texas, failed to appear in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, September 14 2022. The court learned that the defendant is in federal custody. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.Alejandrez is charged with two felonies, possession of a firearm by a convicted, a class 1D felony, punishable by three to 50 years in prison; and possession of methamphetamine, a class 4 felony punishable by two years in prison, 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine.The defendant is also charged with two infractions, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.According to the arrest affidavit, on July 26 of this year, at approximately 10:33 a.m., Jefferson County deputies were dispatched to the Capri Motel in Fairbury, “in reference to a male subject who was pounding on doors at the hotel and appeared to be under the influence.”“I made contact with the male who was hitting the door,” wrote the deputy in the affidavit. The male subject, “stated that he was just trying to wake up his friend because he needed to be out of the room by 1100 hours.”The defendant was reportedly sleeping. When he was roused and the door to the room opened, a deputy reported, “I could see what appeared to be multiple smoking pipes used to ingest methamphetamines as well as a small baggy of crystal white substance laying on the floor at the foot of the bed…”The defendant was arrested at the scene.Alejandrez previously indicated that, though he is from Texas, he has been living and working in Fairbury. However, he also stated that he had been unemployed for the last month.County Attorney Joseph Casson advised the court that Alejandrez had been arrested in Thayer County on a drug charges. While the defendant was in custody there, authorities in Thayer County learned that there was a federal warrant for his arrest.
