Thayer Central Finishes Second At State

The Thayer Central Lady Titans finished as Class C-2 runner-up.The 10th appearance ever for Thayer Central Lady Titans at state volleyball was a memorable run, even if looking back at on it can be a bittersweet feeling. The Lady Titans entered as the number three seed for Class C-2 and by the end made history for their school. The first round match against number six seed Freeman would go to a finish of 3-1 on Thursday, Nov. 7.The following day Thayer Central would sweep number seven seed Johnson-Brock on Friday, Nov. 8 to punch their ticket to the state volleyball championship for the first time in school’s history.On Saturday, Nov. 9, awaiting Thayer Central was the number one seed Lincoln Lutheran whom would had not lost any set by the time of the state championship. The first set, a good sign of the efforts that were on display throughout the tournament had Thayer Central surprising Lincoln Lutheran as the Lady Titans grabbed the first set win with a set score of 25-21. Unfortunately, the first set would be the only set won for Thayer Central as they lost the next three sets 16-25, 19-25 and 20-25. The result not what Thayer Central had hoped for, but the finish as runner-up and being the first team to reach the championship match will carry merit for years to come as Thayer Central looks back on the season ending with a solid record of (31-3).
