Timmons Reaches 1K

It speaks to the athletes abilities to take advantages of the opportunities presented within each game. Each year in high school offers a new year full of opportunities with competition and in the past two years, sophomore Evelyn Timmons has been able to take full advantage of them.Reaching certain milestones, merits some attention being brought to it, never mind the fact Timmons was able to reach a big milestone in only her second year as she passed 1,000 kills in a career as she now has 1,037 kills. From freshman year to sophomore year Timmons was able to improve her productivity by a total of 121 kills. The path to get to such milestones, never a designed goal in mind, it just comes along the way of competing in a sport that Evelyn has enjoyed most of her life as she spoke on volleyball and the past season, “First, I want to say I’m really proud of my team for our success this season and for our hard work in the off season. I love playing volleyball. I’ve been playing volleyball competitively since I was in third grade. So, I am excited and proud that I have found success in my favorite sport. I never know until after the games when the stats come out and Mr. Thompson tells me that I have broken a record. I truly never thought I would be able to break the single season kills record so I was really surprised the first time and absolutely shocked the second time. Even more shocked that it was against the same team both times. Superior is a strong team and it’s always a battle with them. It’s always a fun celebration to know that I accomplished something no one else has and I’m so thankful to my team who always supports me and celebrates my achievement with me. Ultimately, though, I really want to win. Winning and competing with my teammates is really what drives me.” Timmons would continue as she spoke on the 1k milestone saying, “Regarding the 1,000 kills, I had hoped before I graduated I would accomplish this, I was not necessarily expecting to do that by my sophomore year but I’m really excited about it because I have worked so hard to become a strong all-around volleyball player. Continuing to work hard in the off season will be key for my improvement.”It’s evident in the previous work from the off-season paved the way for another successful season. For the second time in her career Timmons was selected to the S.N.C All-conference first team. Ended the season with 579 kills on a 47.7 percent kill percentage, served 52 aces, came up with 45 blocks, and 29 assists as well, all of which were career highs. Finishing second in the Class C-1 stat leaders in kills, and ranked fourth with a hitting percentage of (0.362). She also finished the year ranked among the top 10 in the state of Nebraska in kills at sixth. The steps forward Timmons has taken to her game has opened even more eyes on the coming seasons. With a successful season as she had, Evelyn would not miss the chance to give thanks to those around her as she said, “I also want to recognize my team-without their passing and setting and my coach’s belief in me, I wouldn’t be able to achieve this milestone. I am really lucky that I get to play volleyball with some of my best friends. Next year we will miss Sam Starr but are really lucky that five of our starters are returning. I know we’re all going to work hard in the off season and return in the fall hungry for an even better season!”
