Timothy James Torrey

Timothy James Torrey, 72, of Lincoln, NE, passed away on August 23rd, 2025 from complications of multiple sclerosis.Timothy was born on November 12, 1952 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Kenneth and Ilma “Jean” (Strayer) Torrey and moved with his family to Fairbury, Nebraska as a child. He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1971 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Theology at Mount Vernon Bible College in Ohio.Reverend Torrey served as minister to Foursquare churches in Spearfish, South Dakota and Fairbury, Nebraska as well as First Baptist Church in Western, Nebraska. Timothy later worked as a custodian for Fairbury Public Schools.I n 1974, Tim married Tammy Unger and they went on to have two children, Abby and Nathan.In 2011, Tim married his second wife Sheri Oaks. Timothy loved life and he especially enjoyed marriage and family. His eyes lit up whenever speaking of his children, and he wished he could have known his grandchildren better.As a child, Tim enjoyed spending time outdoors with his sisters and with his friends. As an adult Tim liked to reminisce about personal experiences, with stories that included pets, fishing, cars, family, friends, neighbors, and so much more.Tim preferred to spend his leisure time among other people in both conversation and a variety of gatherings. He always shared a smile while saying “hi” to everyone as he brightened their day. Tim’s favorites were playing guitar, listening to country music, watching Nebraska football, wearing baseball caps, enjoying tasty food, Dr. Pepper, Bingo, good conversation, and the NKJV.Reverend Torrey’s mission was to tell others the good news of the Gospel of Jesus. His ministry career was a joyful time in his life, and he continued ministering to others long after retirement. Even as a nursing home resident, he often prayed with staff or other residents.We celebrate Timothy’s homecoming as he has long been awaiting to dwell in the house of the Lord “forevah”. Psalm 23Timothy was predeceased by his parents, sister Elizabeth Weiner, second wife Sheri (Oaks) Torrey. He is survived by children Abby Rauwald (Tony) of Springfield, MO; Nathan (Katie) Torrey of Springfield, MO; grandchildren Kylee Rauwald, Dylan Rauwald, Hannah Torrey; sister Becky Fischer (Richard) of Friend, NE; friend Julie Miles. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Lincoln Berean Church (North entrance), 6400 S. 70th Street, Lincoln.
