Trey Saathoff Arrested In Gage County

Trey D. Saathoff, 25, of Diller, was arrested in the early morning of Thursday, April 7, by the Beatrice Police Department on a warrant out of Jefferson County.District Court Judge Julie D. Smith issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Saathoff after she failed to appear for court in Jefferson County on Thursday, March 3, 2022. Saathoff also failed to appear for court as scheduled on February 24.At that time, Saathoff's attorney, Benjamin Murray, requested a continuance, noting, “By mistake, Mr. Saathoff was released from D&E (Nebraska Department of Corrections Diagnostic and Evaluation Center).”Judge Smith denied the motion.AllegationsThe trial of Saathof for various drug charges was scheduled to begin the final week of January, 2022, but was postponed due to the ongoing investigation into the theft of drugs from a Nebraska State Patrol evidence room in Lincoln.Saathoff was one of three suspects arrested on Monday, April 5, 2021. Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at the residence located at the 700 block of 4th Street in Fairbury. Three individuals inside the residence were detained by Deputies during the course of the search, identified as Daniel S. Shibley, Alayna L. Montague and Trey Saathoff.According to the Sheriff's Office, upon searching the residence, an estimated total of 22.9 grams of methamphetamine were discovered as well as several small baggies of marijuana. In addition to this, $85 dollars in cash was seized as well as amounts of drug paraphernalia relating to marijuana and methamphetamine and items related to the distribution of a controlled substance. In a separate bedroom another estimated 6.9 grams of methamphetamine were discovered as well as prescription medication with the names of the individuals scratched off of the pill bottles.The defendant is charged with four counts: aiding and abetting the manufacture or distribution of methamphetamine (28 to 139 grams), a class 1C felony; aiding and abetting the manufacture or distribution of zolpidem, a class 3A felony; possession of methamphetamine and possession of zolpidem, both class 4 felonies.Saathoff has pleaded Not Guilty to all charges.New ChargesSaathof is not facing additional charges in Gage County. Arrest documents indicate that, while sitting in the back of a law enforcement vehicle to be transported to jail, he requested that the window be rolled down. While stopped at a red light at 6th and Lincoln Streets in Beatrice, an officer reported seeing a white object fall from the window. A search of the area uncovered four checks that were not issued to the defendant.In addition to the Jefferson County charges, Saathof is now facing possible charges in Gage County for theft by receiving stolen property, criminal possession of a forged instrument and tampering with physical evidence.Prior Criminal HistorySaathoff was one of five individuals convicted in a homicide that occurred at Crystal Springs Park in Fairbury on July 1, 2019. He was originally charged as an accessory to murder. In accordance with a plea agreement, the charge was reduced to attempt of a class 2A felony, which is a class 3A felony. Saathoff was sentenced to three years incarceration and 18 months of post-release supervision.A motion to revoke Saathoff's post-release supervision was filed on March 31, 2021, noting multiple failures to keep appointments with the Probation Officer.
