Tri County Wins Jr Legion District Title

Was it real life or was it fantasy to have won 15 games in a row for a baseball team?Tri County Juniors saw it as real life as they’ve lived it the past month and a half of baseball action. For 15 games, Tri County has dominated en route to the Class C Junior Area 4 District Championship as they would be taking on Wilber Juniors Tuesday night at 5:30. The two teams had met previously on Sunday night July 10th in a game that would go down to a walk-off hit by Dusty Kapke of Tri County keeping the winning streak alive to win that game 9-8.The next day on Monday July 11th Wilber was taking on Utica Beaver Crossing and with the way the bats were hitting as the team racked up 13 hits, and no errors on the defensive side, it was obvious that redemption was on the mind of Wilber as they would go onto win easily by a final score of 14-2.The rematch was set for Wilber, and they can have that redemption for one game, but would then have to take on Tri County at 8:00 for a double header as Tri County remains the only team with no loses in the double elimination. One win for Tri County is all it takes to make that sweet feeling of victory with a championship even sweeter with it being 16 games in a row. For Wilber it’ll take a great effort to win two games in a row and if done will claim the championship knowing they had earned it and then some. Two teams very familiar with each other with only one moving on to State.It was a roller-coaster ride, but despite being down four runs after the 1st inning, Tri County would comeback to win by four runs to claim the Class C Area 4 Juniors Championship winning 8-4 against Wilber Tuesday July 12th.For Wilber that hot start in the game could be credited to a pair of singles by Nick Jacobson and Karsen Fisher along a groundout from Cole Radcliff helped take that lead. Jack Zimmerman was able to lead Wilber by going two for three at the plate, Owen Smith went one for two with a double as his one hit, and Caden Parham was able to contribute one hit going one for three. Carter Skelba started on the mound going two and a third inning allowing three hits, five runs, two strikeouts and two walks before being relieved by Owen Smith who pitched three and two-thirds inning allowing two hits, three runs, one walk and three strikeouts.For Tri County, a rough start that looked like a double header was in the future, weathered the storm and stayed the course, showing a great deal of poise throughout the game. Carter Siems exemplified that on the mound after having the rough first inning, would go the complete seven innings allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four with three walks. It was Tayden Gronemeyer who led Tri County by going three for four at the plate while bringing in three RBI as well.Dusty Kapke also managed to get multiple hits going two for three while bringing in two RBI for the team. Carter Siems, Caden Bales and Pierce Damrow each contributed one hit the team’s eight as well.Making 16 straight victories for Tri County carries a lot of momentum heading into Junior Legion State at Creighton NE for the days July 17-22 with a strong record of 26-3.
