Veterinarian Prohibited From Owning Horses In Gage County, Owns ‘Very Healthy’ Horses In Jefferson County

By Gordon HopkinsA veterinarian forbidden from owning horses in Gage County for two years is still able to own horses in other Nebraska counties, including on her parents’ property in Jefferson. Local authorities have confirmed that those animals are “very healthy.”Dr. Jennafer Glaesemann, veterinarian and owner of Blue Valley Veterinary Clinic in Beatrice and Pickrell Veterinary Clinic in Pickrell, agreed to the Gage County prohibition in connection with an investigation by the Gage County Sheriff’s Office in 2023 that included serving a search warrant on Glaesemann’s clinics on August 17, 2023. Despite the seizure of 37 horses, no criminal charges were ever filed.In the aftermath of the search, Gage County Attorney Roger Harris explained he had doubts about whether he could prove abuse to the horses that were seized. A press release from the county attorney’s office said, in part, “Mr. Harris noted that the resolution of this matter was complicated by the presence of parvovirus which was detected in some of the remaining horses. This virus can result in a condition that is sometimes deadly to equine. Experts in animal husbandry have differing opinions about the diagnosis, cause and treatment of this virus making it very difficult to prove animal abuse by proof beyond a reasonable doubt.”Although the agreement was struck to resolve issues surrounding the 2023 searches in Gage County, it does not preclude Glaesemann from owning horses in other counties.For years, Dr. Glaesemann has stabled horses in Jefferson County on property owned by Dr. Glaesemann’s mother, Angela Glaesemann.As Harris explained, “Our jurisdiction is Gage County and these are the terms which were negotiated between the parties. There are people on Facebook who fail to realize this and also fail to understand that we have nothing to do with the licensing of professionals, nor any revocation of those licenses.”Even though the Gage County agreement doesn’t apply in Jefferson, Angela Glaesemann reports that her family has “been harassed at home by people stopping by and there’s also been an increase in traffic on the road - especially driving by slowly, taking pictures,” she said. “It is ridiculous and very upsetting.”Angela Glaesemann is also critical of the agreement that prevents her daughter from owning horses in Gage County.“Dr. Glaesemann has paid for hay to be delivered at our house or she brings it over herself,” said Angela Glaesemann. “Doesn’t make much sense that Dr. Glaesemann can take care of horses 30 miles away but then supposedly can’t take care of them in her own backyard, does it?”Meanwhile, according to Harris, Glaesemann’s horses on her parents’ property are healthy. “There have been checks by law enforcement on the horses in Jefferson County,” he said. “These checks are being done due to misinformation from some individuals who apparently have some personal agendas that have no bearing in the criminal justice system.”Jefferson County Sheriff Nick Georgi concurs that the Glaesemann horses on her parents’ property are safe.“We have been made aware of this and are keeping an eye on things,” said the sheriff. “We went out with a vet a few months ago as it was believed some of those horses may have been hers. The horses were put on a specific diet per the vet and we checked on those horses twice a week for three months.”Sheriff Georgi said, “the horses are getting fed and there is plenty of feed/water and hay for the horses on the property. Many of the horses look tremendously better now and very healthy.”
