Weers Signs With UNK

Athletes and fans alike have known for the last four years that it will never be a tough time seeing the talent that Myleigh Weers showed at Diller-Odell. It’s so apparent that the University of Kearney did not hesitate in signing her to compete at the next level in basketball before her senior year.From her eye opening freshman year as she would go on to set a new school single game scoring record. Her junior year had even more moments reaching 1,000 career points within a month of the season. Adding to the intrigue of her athletic abilities, Weers would go on to qualify for state track for the second year in a row and with her efforts claimed the right to be called Class D 800-meter champion and placed among the top three in the 400-meter dash. Both those efforts set new school records in the process as well. n the upcoming basketball season, Myleigh Weers is on pace to surpass the 2,000 career point milestone and ranks among the top five of players to watch among all classes in the State of Nebraska. The reason behind Myleigh being among the top five is having a 21 points per game average, along with four rebounds, four steals and four assists to go with that. Weers has shown she’s willing and able to make an impact on both sides. Even as Weers was surpassing certain milestones and on pace to do more of the same this year, it’s never been about the stats, for Myleigh, it’s doing anything possible to get the win as she spoke on the final year saying, “I am blessed to be in the position I’m in. My parents and coaches have put so much time in to helping me get to this point which means a lot. It’s never been about stats for me, I just take advantages of the opportunities that my coaches and teammates helped put me in these last few years and I’ve been fortunate to make the most of them. I know going into this year teams know what to expect from us, but we’re ready to get past the challenges we’ll face our way. Of course, the goal is making it to state and I know that myself and my teammates are going to give it everything to do that.” The decision to sign with UNK, a relatively easy one to make as the connections that were made had helped Weers know it was the right place to be for the future as she spoke about UNK saying, “It didn’t take me too long to make the decision to go there (UNK). I can’t remember exactly when they had reached out, but I’ve got some friends who play for them at the moment. I knew they type of game they like to play really matched up with my style, and the coaching staff talked about how I could be utilized. After attending a couple games, knowing their plans, I knew without question, this was the place for me.”A relentless style of play that has captivated many sports fans and with one last go around has many waiting with anticipation on the upcoming season.
