Woman Postponed Due to Weather

The snowstorm that lead to closing of schools and created dangerous driving conditions also resulted in a court hearing being rescheduled, over the objection of the defendant.Tina Marie Hinrichs, age 57, appeared in Jefferson County Court Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.Hinrichs is charged with two count of possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamine. One of those counts is for an amount between 10 to 27 grams of methamphetamine, making it a class 1D felony punishable by three to 50 years in prison. The other count is for less than 10 grams, making it a class 2 felony punishable by one to 50 years in prison.According to the Arrest Affidavit for Warrant, on September 14, 2022, a confidential informant for the Nebraska State Patrol provided Hinrichs with $220 in Nebraska State Patrol drug funds for the purchase of approximately 10 grams of methamphetamine. This transaction occurred in Fairbury, under the direct supervision and surveillance of the State Patrol.The affidavit also alleges that, on September 20, 2022, Hinrichs was provided with $80 in Nebraska State Patrol drug funds, again by a confidential informant, for the purchase of three grams of methamphetamine. This transaction also occurred in Fairbury, under the direct supervision and under State Patrol surveillance.A Nebraska State Crime Laboratory report dated August 16, 2024, indicates an analysis was conducted and the suspected substances were confirmed to be methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance.An warrant was issued on January 6, 2025.Because the charges are felonies, Hinrichs is entitled to a preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to bind the case over to District Court, where felonies are adjudicated.However, a witness for the prosecution is a Nebraska State Patrol trooper in Lincoln. County Attorney Joseph Casson asked for the hearing to be continued rather than ask the witness to drive to Fairbury, given the road conditions at the time.Judge Bauer said the county attorney had given just cause why the hearing could not go forward and rescheduled it for March 12.Hinrichs said, “I hate being frustrated.”
