Wymore Annual Golf FUNdraiser a Success

By Neil VanBoeningThe 6th Annual Golf Event at Wymore Country Club, organized by Kiwanis Club of Southern Gage County (KCSGC) and Wymore Blue Springs Area Fund (WBSAF), held on the opening day of May 2022 was again declared a “hole-in-one.” One of the jewels of living in this community is to witness the needed collaboration to achieve a goal, which happens to be one of the WBSAF values. This specific event saw several people groups and non-profits combined to raise over $3,200.00 to abbreviate the gap be-tween the current $107,000 plus balance raised thus far and the $169,000 plus needed to purchase and install the planned inclusive playground for 5-12-year-olds in Wymore’s McCandless Park. Those overcoming the 2022 Nebraska wind gusts, were 11 of the 2-person teams competing for the most fun, KCSGC, WBSAF, many, many area businesses with hole sponsorships and flag prizes, and the Wymore Country Club Board of Directors accommodating the event with the benefit of their 9-hole golf course.Like all of life, as we attempt to find what is the new normal after the covid pandemic, the annual Golf FUNdraiser was moved to the beginning of the 2022 golf season in order to accommodate the spring fever compulsion to get outdoors with some “FUN”. Since the highly regarded Wymore Country Club course is restoring to its usual level of beauty, the participants played on only four of the greens and played on temporary greens to protect and respect the other greens. For those readers who are avoiding the annual event due to the unknown nature of the competitions, some of the all-in-fun events included: putting with a child’s putter; tee-off from a tall hose tee; either tee-off the toilet or tee-off from an elevated platform (no looking down on others allowed); left-handed golfer tee-off right-handed or right-handed golfer tee-off left-handed; and depending on the spinning wheel landing number, use that exclusive number golf club from tee-off through final putt.
