Wymore Man Faces Charges in Gage and Lancaster Counties

Skyler Lee Hutchison, age 26, of Wymore, is facing multiple criminal charges in both Gage and Lancaster Counties.The defendant is charged with possession of methamphetamine, a class 4 felony, punishable by up to two years in prison and one year of post-release supervision. He is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction that carries a $100 fine.On August 17, 2022, at approximately 2:30 a.m., an off-duty Gage County law enforcement officer observed Hutchison entering a parking garage located at 6th and Market Streets in Beatrice. According to the officer, “I was aware of Hutchison having an active arrest warrant out of Lancaster County, Nebraska.”“I contacted Hutchison, immediately identified based on previous law enforcement contacts, and placed him in handcuffs pursuant to the arrest warrant,” the officer noted in the Probable Cause Affidavit. “A search of Hutchison's pockets pursuant to arrest, yielded a glass smoking device with a white crystalline substance inside. The substance field tested positive for the presumptive identification of methamphetamine.”The officer indicated the defendant was out on bond from both from Lancaster and Gage Counties.Lancaster County CaseIn Lancaster County, Hutchison is charged with theft by stealing with a value of less than $500, a class 2 misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $500 fine. This is alleged to have occurred on May 12, 2022.The defendant was scheduled to appear in Lancaster County Court on June 27, but did not show. A warrant was issued for him that day.An additional charge of failing to appear while on bail, also a class 2 misdemeanor, was added.The defendant was scheduled to appear in Lancaster County Court on August 4, but did again not show. A warrant was issued for him that day.Hutchison was arrested on September 6.Additional Gage County CasesThese cases are separate from another pending case in Gage County case, in which Hutchison has been charged with shoplifting.According to an Affidavit for Arrest Warrant, Beatrice Police were called to the Git N Split on May 27, 2022, in reference to an alleged theft. The officer that filled out the affidavit viewed video surveillance of the incident wrote, “On May 30th, 2022 I was able to view the footage. In the video a female walked into the store and a few seconds later a male walks in wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. I was able to identify the male as Skyler Hutchison through prior law enforcement contacts. Hutchison walks around the store with out his hands in his pockets and walks to where the alcohol is located. Hutchison bends over and appears to grab an item. Hutchison then walks towards the back of the store and down another aisle where he appears to put something under his clothing. After he does this Hutchison keeps one hand in his sweatshirt pocket. He walks towards the cash register area as if he is looking at something, then exits the store.”The value of the item allegedly stolen in less than $500, making the charge a class 2 misdemeanor.A warrant was issued for Hutchison on June 9 and returned on June 10.Hutchison was free on bond from a different case when the alleged incident occurred.In that case, Hutchison is charged with four counts: third degree domestic assault, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine; terroristic threats, a class 3A felony punishable by up to three years in prison and 18 months of post-release supervision; theft with a value of less than $500, a class 2 misdemeanor; and theft with a value between $500 and $5,000, a class 4 felony punishable by two years in prison and one year of post-release supervision.That case has been bound over to District Court in Gage County.
