You Have Questions, We Can Give Answers

I think I represent all area media, from this newspaper, to NCN (TV) and Ol Red (radio) as well as the Jefferson County Commissioners when I ask ‘What do you need to be informed?’ At the wind farm meeting last week at the Jefferson County Courthouse, well over 200 people attended and over 70 spoke their minds on the regulations on wind farms in the county. Several noted they had no idea changes were being discussed and were taken by surprise that the word wasn’t spread about this issue. FJN has run numerous articles about the meetings. It has appeared on our website, we’ve mentioned it on our Facebook page. The county has posted meeting notices on its website, the radio/TV station had featured the subject. So how was this a surprise? How did 200 people know to show up to the meeting?So, my question to those that are wanting to know about meetings and happenings in the community, how do you want that delivered? It was noted at the meeting by a planning and zoning board member, that no one reads the Fairbury Journal-News anymore.Door-to-door? More fliers at the grocery store? Phone calls? How can the radio/television station, newspaper and county officials get the word out if online, social media, over the airwaves, in print and through virtual screens isn’t getting the job done?FJN will be doing a FREE compendium section online in the next few weeks that will have ALL of our stories about the wind farm situation in it and will include audio file links for further information gathering.
