Diller-Odell Junior Scores Historic Milestone At Home Game As Griffins Pound Pawnee City BasketballThe Fairbury Jeffs were able to hold onto the victory against Heartland on the road, winning Thursday, November 30th, with the final score 41-39. Leading Fairbury in scoring was Blake Starr as the lone Jeff to reach double digits with 22 points. Brodie Prellwitz contributed a nice eight points, James Martin and Drew Watson each had four points, Korey Nippert had two points and Jakolbe Atkins had one point. Fairbury will be back home on Saturday, December 2nd, as they host Fillmore Central. The Fairbury lady Jeffs pulled away with a strong second half start against Heartland, winning that game 37-20 on Thursday, November 30th. Fairbury came into the first half with a 14-9 lead. Looking to build from that small lead, Fairbury had both their offense and defense come alive as they would score 18 points while holding Heartland to only three points. Eating the clock, Fairbury scored five in the fourth, and held Heartland to eight points, capping a strong defensive showing for the lady Jeffs first victory on opening night. Fairbury will be home on Saturday, December 2nd, looking to carry opening night’s momentum into hosting Fillmore Central. The Diller-Odell lady Griffins defense secured the victory at home against Pawnee City on opening night Thursday, November 30th. The final score would reach 63-22. D-O was led by Myleigh Weers, scoring 19 points, and also reaching double digits for scoring in D-O was Keira Hennerberg with 11 points. Adain Mckinney contributed well off the bench with seven points, Kenzie Strein was able to come away with six points, while Jaedyn Hajek and Baileigh Vilda each had five points. For D-O, in the process of obtaining victory, fans saw a milestone passed within the first quarter. Junior Myleigh Weers only needed eight points, and under three minutes left in the first. With a three-pointer at the top of the key, Weers hit nothing but the bottom of the net to surpass the 1,000 career point milestone. Taking a moment after the game to speak on the milestone, Weers would not pass up the opportunity, sharing the moment with her team, saying, “It’s a huge thanks to my teammates that I got this far. They helped get me in great positions to make plays, they trust me and I’ve been fortunate to accomplish this. Coming away with a double double and leading the charge was Cooper Morgan. The Junior was able to finish with 19 points and 10 rebounds, as well as having one assist and one steal. The Thayer Central Titans were able to get the win on the road opening night with a final score 37-33 against Republic County on Thursday, November 30th. Thayer Central as a team would go on to win the rebound battle 40-30, won the assist battle 9-0 and just edged out their opponents in steals 11-10. The Tri County lady Trojans held on to the lead winning 28-20 against Wilber-Clatonia lady Wolverines. Tri County looks to build off this win as they hit the road Saturday, December 2nd, going against Johnson County Central.The Wilber-Clatonia lady Wolverines look to bounce back hosting Heartland Friday, December 1st with coverage from that game in the Wednesday print edition.For the boys it was the Tri County Trojans securing a tough win on the road against Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines as the final score reached 44-35 on Thursday November 30th. Tri County looks to carry the momentum from the win as they will be hitting the road on Saturday, December 2nd, up against Johnson County Central.
