Pingel, age 40, of Steele City, appeared in Jefferson County Court via webcam from the Reception and Treatment Center of the Nebraska Department of Corrections in Lincoln on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge. Pingel is charged with third degree assault on a peace officer, a class 3A felony; terroristic threats, also a class 3A felony; disturbing the peace, a class 3 misdemeanor; and resisting arrest, a class 1 misdemeanor. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 12, 2024. The defendant remains in custody as of press time on a $20,000 (10 percent) bond.Cory L. Nutsch, age 34, of Fairbury, was arraigned on an amended complaint. Nutsch was originally charged with first degree criminal trespass in 2023, a class 1 misdemeanor. He failed to appear for a court date and a warrant was issued for his arrest and an additional charge of failure to appear, a class 2 misdemeanor, was added to the complaint. He was free on a $3,500 (10 percent) bond when he appeared for court. However, once the hearing was adjourned, he was taken into custody on a warrant out of Gage County for failure to pay child support.Braxton L. Devor, age 19, of Fairbury, is charged with second degree forgery with a value of $5,000 or more, a class 2A felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and two counts of title violations, each a class 4 felony. A preliminary hearing determined there was sufficient evidence to bind the case over to District Court. His bond was originally $10,000 (10 percent) but there was an allegation during the hearing that, after paying his bond on a card and being released, Devor allegedly called the card company to dispute the charge. The prosecution asked for an increase, which the judge granted. The bond was increased to $20,000 (10 percent).Clayton M. Welch, age 22, was sentenced to to 60 days in jail, with credit for 12 days time served. Welch was originally charged with resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer, both class 1 misdemeanors. In accordance with a plea agreement, Welch pleaded guilty to obstructing a peace officer. The charge of resisting arrest was dismissed.
