Accident in Wymore Leads to DUI Arrest

A man was arrested in Gage County for DUI after a single-vehicle accident.
On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at approximately 6:45 a.m., the Gage County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the intersection of West E Street and South 14th Street (Highway 77) in Wymore for a motor vehicle accident. According to the sheriff’s office, a pickup truck had struck a stop sign, a light pole, and a curb.
When deputies arrived to investigate, the driver of the 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, Rodney J. Burr, age 44, was being treated by paramedics from Wymore Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
After an investigation at the scene, the investigating deputy arrested Burr for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and he was taken to the Gage County Detention Center and booked into jail.
Burr reported no injuries from the accident and was treated by paramedics and released at the scene.
The sheriff’s office noted in a press release, “Seatbelt use is unknown. Speed is not considered to be a factor in the accident; however, alcohol use is considered to be a contributing factor in the accident.”
This is not Burr’s first brush with the law. Earlier this year, Burr pleaded No Contest to a charge of first degree domestic assault, a class 1 misdemeanor. In accordance with a plea agreement, a class 3A felony charge of strangulation was dismissed. Sentencing is scheduled for September 8, 2023.
In 2021, Burr pleaded Guilty to first offense DUI, a class W misdemeanor, in Gage County Court. He was sentenced to nine months of probation. A motion to revoke probation alleges that Burr failed to report for drug and alcohol testing on multiple occasions. A probation violation hearing is scheduled for September 8, 2023.
Burr remains in custody in Gage County as of press time.
