Attractions Old And New At The
2022 Jefferson County Fair

The Jefferson County Fair will be held from July 13-17. The theme this year will be “Ready, Set, Go to the Jefferson County Fair.”The fair will have many events and attractions but will not have a parade this year. “In lieu of that we will be releasing our exhibits at 6 o’clock instead of 8 o’clock,” Fair President Lois Welsh said.A new attraction this year will be a large frame visitors can use to take their pictures. This attraction will be free but visitors will need to bring their own camera.Another new attraction will be a horticultural contest for the tallest cornstalk. The contest is sponsored by the Farmer’s Co-op and the winner will receive a cash prize. Entries can be made Wednesday night or Thursday morning before noon.There will also be more parking this year across the road from the PWF Road.Welsh said they also installed a new PA system all over the fair grounds. “It should be 100 percent better than the old one, which was ancient,” she joked.Last year the fair was unable to have the ‘Test and Tune’ racing event due to rain, but Welsh said it will be back this year.The dog show has been moved from Thursday to Tuesday at 10 a.m.They will also be bringing back the arm bands for the carnival. The arm bands can be purchased on Thursday night. With these arm bands visitors can ride all they want to ride from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday only.The photography theme for this year will be “Anything That Moves.” There will be two winners of this contest, and each will receive a savings bond.On Saturday the youth from the Presbyterian Church will be presenting “Jonah and the Whale.”“The kids are really, really cute in that,” Welsh said.On Sunday afternoon there will be a presentation of Quilts of Valor. Ten men will receive these quilts.Just before this presentation the Fair Board will be presenting a skit called “From Our Front Porch.”“I don’t know if we can top last year, it was so funny,” Welsh said.Welsh said the fair would also feature five pioneer families this year. These are families that have had the same land in their family for 100 years or more. One family has had their land for 150 years.Welsh said preparations for this year’s fair began as soon as the fair ended last year.The preparations have gone smoothly with no obstacles, Welsh said.
