Beatrice Man Charged with Assault

Jordan R. Kuhn of Beatrice was arraigned on October 20 on a charge of third degree domestic assault of a pregnant woman, a class 3A felony, which carries a possible punishment of three years in prison followed by 18 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine. Kuhn was arrested on Sunday, September 26.The defendant is represented by Public Attorney Scott Gropp. However, at a previous hearing,on September 29, County Attorney Joseph Casson noted the details of Kuhn's financial status indicate his eligibility for court-appointed counsel is “borderline.” Therefore, Kuhn was advised he may be required to reimburse the county's legal fees.At that hearing, Kuhn told the judge, “This ain't me. I made a big, big mistake.”Kuhn requested court-appointed counsel and Public Defender Scott Gropp was assigned to the case.“I just got a really good job,” said Kuhn. “I've been doing really good with that job working every day. I've been paying off a lot of approbation fines.”Kuhn is currently on probation in Gage County.The defendant was originally held on a $100,000 (10 percent) bond. Judge Bauer denied a request for a PR (Personal Recognizance) bond but agreed to reduce the bond to $5,000 (10 percent), meaning the defendant would have to pay $500 to be released. The bond also has a no-contact with the victim provision and a stipulation that Kuhn reside with his mother in Beatrice.
