Brownout in Fairbury

Portions of the City of Fairbury experienced a brownout Wednesday, May 17, 2023, from approximately 6:25 p.m. until shortly before 8:00 p.m. Unlike a blackout, which is a total disruption in electrical power, a brownout is a partial reduction in power. Some power was still flowing to some homes, enough to operate some electric devices at a greatly reduced level. Most electric lights, for example, burned much dimmer than usual.
Fairbury Mayor Spencer Brown indicated the brownout was the result of a tree branch that fell on a power line on 11th Street, between C an D Streets.
