Head-On Collision on Highway 136

On Friday, May 12, 2023 at approximately 2:27 p.m., the Jefferson County 911 Center received a call in reference to a two-vehicle head on collision near the intersection of Highway 136 and 560 Avenue, west of Fairbury.A deputy was on scene at the time of the accident as it was behind one of the vehicles that was involved and observed the accident as it happened.According to the initial investigation of the accident scene, a 2020 Chevrolet Express van driven by Patrick White, age 58, of Grand Island, was traveling west on Highway 136 and was approaching the intersection of 560 Avenue. A 2007 Buick Lucerne driven by a 16-year-old juvenile female of Mankato Kansas, was traveling eastbound on Highway 136 and just passed the intersection of 560 Avenue.It was determined by the Sheriff's Office that White crossed the center line and went into the eastbound lane of travel.The juvenile driver attempted to avoid the collision by taking the shoulder but was unable to avoid the collision. The two vehicles collided in the eastbound lane at a near head collision.White received minor injuries from the accident and was looked at by ambulance personnel but was not transported.The juvenile was transported to Jefferson Community Health and Life by the ambulance and checked out by medical staff for minor injuries.Other responding agencies were the Jefferson County Ambulance District #33 and Jefferson County Rural Fire and Rescue.
