Champions Once Again

For the last six years, (excluding the year of COVID) the Fairbury Lady Jeffs have reigned near the top of the mountain at the SNC Conference track and field meet. In the years 2018, and 2019 runners up, by 2021 they finally got over the hill and claimed the right to be named champions, 2022 runners up and this year 2023 Fairbury Lady Jeffs come back with a determination in taking first by scoring 94 points as a team to be named SNC Conference track and field champions once again.
To accomplish the feat, throughout the day Fairbury was able to have their presence felt with Mikya Lierman taking second in the pole vault, Allison Davis second in the high jump, and Regan Kapke set a new PR in the triple jump with the distance 32’8” taking third.
The racing events was eye opening as Fairbury turned on the jets like they had been looking to all season. Shockingly Fairbury 4×800 did not take first place but still among the top three with third, and in what was an exciting 4×400 meter relay that Fairbury fought hard to take first as they ran the time:4:19.49 with the team Sam Starr, Hannah Robertson, Allison Davis, and Micah Friesen.
Hannah Robertson was able turn the burners on setting a new PR on the way to take first in the 400 meter dash with 1:02.50, and set a new PR in the 200 meter dash rounding it out with fifth running the time of :26.73. Emily Huss was able place among the top in both hurdle events taking first in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of :50.56 and took second in the 100 meter hurdles.
The 800 meter run had the duo of Sam Starr and Micah Friesen each place in the top three by setting a new PR with Sam Starr taking second running the time of 2:27.79, and Micah Friesen took third placing 2:30.21. Lily Davis also joined in the parade of setting new PR times by getting fifth in the 3200 meter run with the time of 13:43.27.
For the Fairbury boys scoring 37 points placed them at eighth. The top efforts came from Devon Carel taking first in the 400 meter dash with the time: 52.07, placed second in the 200 meter dash setting a PR time of :23.33, and fourth in the high jump. Dalton VanLaningham was able to launch himself among the top placements in pole vault setting a new PR with the height 12’00’’ getting third, Nic Smith placed in the top five with fifth in the triple jump and the 4×100 meter relay consisting of James Olds, Jax Biehl, Ethan McCown and Nic Smith grabbed third running the time of :46.70.
Fairbury will be at Waverly for class B-3 Districts on Tuesday, May 9.
