Clifford Charles Holmes

Clifford Charles Holmes, 97, of Webster Groves, Missouri, sadly passed away on January 30, 2024, after suffering a fall at his home. He was born and raised to adulthood in Fairbury, NE and shared 68 years of married life with Cleta J. (Vestal) Holmes, (d. 2016), also a Fairbury native.Cliff was a man of Christian faith and a role model for all who knew him. He was a corporate accountant for Swanson Foods, Campbell Soup and Ralston Purina. He and the family resided in five separate States during his lifetime, yet he always considered Fairbury as ‘home’.Cliff participated in football and track for the Fairbury Jeffs, served stateside in the Air Force during World War II and spent 30 “retirement” years as Vice President of a medical diagnostics company. He achieved much more than can be presented here.He was the son of local residents Clifford Charles Holmes and Daisey Adelphia (Wilson) Holmes, and resided in 12 different locations throughout the town of Fairbury.He is survived by his daughter Terry (Holmes) Bommarito of Festus, MO (husband Tony), sons Don Holmes of Monrovia, MD (wife Sandy (Bagby) Holmes) and David Holmes of Ft. Worth, TX (Wife Lisa (Pennington) Holmes). Cliff was the proud grandfather of five including Jenny Miller of Festus, MO, Whitney (Holmes) Henry of Gaithersburg, MD, Jayme Miller of Sunset Hills, MO, Lara Jill (Holmes) Kelley of Gaithersburg, MD and Kelly Holmes of St. Croix, VI. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren ages 6 months to 15 years, all which loved and cherished him.Our father/grandfather/great-grandfather will be interred at the Fairbury Cemetery in the near future.
