Lauren Lee (Bud) Holcombe,

Lauren Lee (Bud) Holcombe, age 97 of Lincoln, passed away February 13, 2024. He was born in Daykin, NE on March 3, 1926 to Berton and Clara (Kohlschmidt) Holcombe. Lauren spent his formative years on the family farm and graduated from Western High School in 1943. He entered Nebraska Weselyan University for teacher training and then enlisted with the Army Air Corps serving from July 1944 - October 1945. Lauren completed a B.S. in Math Ed and M.S. in Education at UNL in 1948. He taught and coached for Nebraska schools in Pierce, DeWitt, and Exeter for 9 years. In 1957, he took a position with the Lincoln Public School System where he continued to teach math, serve as a counselor, and went on to become a Junior High principal. He served as the administrative assistant for personnel with LPS from 1968 to his retirement. Lauren was a devout Christian and longtime member of Eastridge Presbyterian Church, a steadfast Cornhusker fan, and beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife and fellow lifelong educator, Melinda Ann Pfister, son Steven and his wife Cathy, and four grandchildren: Diana Short, Neil Holcombe, Nicholas Holcombe, and Bradley Holcombe. He is preceded in death by his first wife Jean Damke (Steven’s mother), his brother Lowell, sister Vera (Church), and his parents. There will be a Memorial Service held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Eastridge Presbyterian Church, 1135 Eastridge Drive, Lincoln. Burial will be at Plainview Cemetery in Western, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to LPS Foundation. www.bmlfh.com
