Fairbury Man Charged with Assault

On Wednesday, June 9, 21-year-old Fairbury resident Derek Johnson appeared in court for arraignment via webcam. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.
Johnson is charged with assault in the third degree, which is a Class 1 misdemeanor carrying up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
Johnson requested court appointed council before entering a plea.
Public Defender Scott Gropp was assigned to the case.
Johnson could not post bond, so a reconnaissance bond was set at $5,000 on the condition he does not make contact with the alleged victim.
The alleged event took place on June 1.
